As a Scenic Designer I genuinely see myself  as a member of the creative team. Charged with developing the environment used to tell the story of a play, musical, performing arts piece or film.

Scenery can be used as a playground for the director to tell the story of the piece. I very much believe that a scenic designer works with the director in exploring how and why each item

— platform, flat or wall, table, chair, cube — is or could be used.

I use many tools to create a set: visual script analysis, thumbnail sketches, detailed sketches or renderings and scenic models.
